This video assumes that the footage is overexposed and not blown out where detail would be unrecoverable.

Overexposed video can look bad, particularly when skin is overexposed. If things have gone too far, it may be impossible to correct, but where the values are still only just over 100 IRE (more importantly under 255 brightness with 8-bit footage), some good adjustments in Premiere can make your footage look fine. This tutorials shows one possible combination of effects to use to do this and explains why some other obvious choices don’t work.
